Factory unlocked iPhone 3GS

The Apple iPhone sets the ever-increasing standards of lifestyle technology.
Its iconic design, innovative firmware and extensive App store are head and shoulders above all contenders.
It is for this reason that the iPhone is the only non-PhoneDevil product that we sell. No other phone meets PhoneDevil's high standards of product quality & innovation.

Why Choose PhoneDevil?

- All iPhones that we stock are brand new Authentic Apple products sourced from our long-term supplier in Mainland Europe, packaged in their original (still sealed) boxes.

- Unlike the vast majority of iPhones sold around the world, our iPhones are Factory Unlocked.
This means they are provided unlocked by Apple themselves, and can be used with any network, and any network SIM card.
They can also be firmware upgraded at any time with no issue at all.

- Unlike all other genuine online sellers of Factory Unlocked iPhones, we are able to handle all warranty issues on your behalf.
This is because Apple iPhone warranty is only specific to the country the phone is bought in, and must be returned to that country in order to be repaired.
We are able to provide this service due to the years of experience our founder Callum Bush has within the Telecoms industry. Please see here for more information.

- There are a huge amount of fraudulent iPhone sellers who will send you either a locked iPhone, a software 'unlocked' iPhone, a Chinese fake iPhone, or even no phone at all!
..Please be careful! If you see a price that is cheaper than ours, there is usually a very good reason for it. If a price seems too good to be true, it usually is. Our prices are exceedingly competitive.

- We do not sell software unlocked iPhones and will never do so.
These 'unlocked' iPhones provide a terrible experience for their users, and are not covered by warranty. Please see here for more information.

- We provide unlimited free after-sales support.
Need to configure your internet settings? Not sure how to use the iPhone's built-in 'capture screenshot' function? Want to know what our favourite Apps are?
We are here to help. No question is a stupid question! You'll be glad you asked..

Your questions about Factory unlocked Apple iPhone 3GS

  • From Troy at 19/12/2009 07:17
    • Hi. I believe that part of the "activation" procedure, is to put your sim in the phone before syncing with iTunes on the pc. My sim belongs to a South African carrier, where I live. Will Apple not recognise my sim as belonging to a "locked-in" carrier during this sync? Thanks.
    • That's absolutely correct, all phones must be activated in that manner.

Your phone will not be locked to the network, and you can then swap to any simcard without needing to reactivate it again.
As our phones are factory unlocked (i.e. 'sim free' or 'never-locked'), you can continue to upgrade to later Apple firmware versions as you see fit, with no risk of the phone locking.
  • From Steve at 10/11/2009 15:28
    • I would like to know if I can use the phone on any pay as you go sim card in the UK and also Malaysia. I work and live in both countries and would like to use the phone when I travel. Or what would you recommend? Thank you.
    • You can use our iPhones on any network.

      - All of our stock is official Apple stock, sim-free (factory unlocked) and sealed in the boxes.
You will not experience the phones locking up, as these are not software unlocked iPhones.

      - We sell European iPhone stock, not the Hong Kong stock that most retailers sell. We do this because your ongoing experience is important to us, and we do not want you to be hit by customs duty fees should you need to return the phone for a warranty repair.

      - We are the only retailer we are aware of that provides a warranty return support service. You can view details here:
      http://www.phonedevil.com/support/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=12
We also help you out to the best of our ability after you have purchased (e.g. queries like 3G/MMS setup, the best apps available e.t.c.).
  • From paulmac at 10/11/2009 09:31
    • I have a great deal with "3" for a SIM that I currently use in a dongle to connect my laptop to their 3G network. Lots of people complain about 3 but I'm actually quite pleased with the performance of their 3G modem.

Would this work if I simply switched it into an unlocked iPhone? The deal gives me 3GB of data/month which is well above the 500MB you quote as the cap placed by most networks.

      Thanks!
    • If only life were that simple! ;)

I must admit that we were not sure of the answer to this (but expected it to not be possible, or else everyone would be doing it). This link is pretty informative however:

I recommend calling 3 customer services in reference to their answer, to check it is correct. I expect it will be.
  • From KMT at 08/11/2009 11:37
    • I am thinking about buying a factory unlocked iphone for use on the T-Mobile network in the UK and have a couple of questions.
Will it work straight out of the box with my T-Mobile chip?
Will it need any special settings to access the internet via T-Mobile?
Will I be able to update the software via i-tunes without locking the phone to any network?
      Thanks!
    • Yes everything will work perfectly. You will simply need to update the 3G/MMS settings (it's a one minute process) which we will take you through. You can update the firmware as many times as you like and it will never unlock.

You also need to activate the phone using iTunes, which is very simple and again takes about a minute. All iPhone users have to do that.

We believe our warranty support to be second to none, as we are not aware of another factory unlocked iPhone retailer who can handle warranty repairs. See this link for more info.

  • From becky at 08/10/2009 13:41
    • Hi, I want to purchase the unlocked iphone but I want to know if I'll be able to transfer my tmobile to it. I live in the US so I've heard that I may have a problem getting my service on it.

      Thanks.
    • Our iPhones are factory unlocked (i.e. they have never ever been locked), and are supplied in their original sealed boxes.
They are not unlocked to AT&T or software unlocked (those kind of phones would give you a lot of problems).
Therefore they can be used on any GSM network (T-Mobile USA is a GSM network, as is almost every other network in the world).

You do not need to transfer your service, you just literally put the sim in the phone and activate your iPhone using iTunes in the standard way (which takes about 1 minute), and you will receive your T-Mobile network signal!
  • From thinkingAboutIt at 20/07/2009 15:41
    • What network would you recommend with an unlocked Iphone and how much would the charge be with full internet access and use of the Iphone as a modem?
    • Hi there,

I am pretty sure you just added us on Twitter. I hope I am correct in thinking you are located in the United Kingdom.

Pretty much all of our customers settle for Vodafone, T-Mobile or Orange, using an 'unlimited data' tariff. For exampIe, the 'Solo' SIM only tariff on T-Mobile from £20/month upwards).

My advice is for you to call the Telesales team of each network at the end of a Commercial Quarter (i.e. now!), when they tend to have much better 'under-the-counter' deals on offer for value-seeking customers such as yourself. One network will usually has a crazily good offer that the others won't match.

In terms of using the iPhone as a modem (aka data tethering) in the UK, with a non O2-UK network:
      - This is something you have to enable by installing the respective configuration profile available from this link.
      http://www.bitterwallet.com/how-to-enable-internet-tethering-on-a-uk-iphone/13687

      - Data charges will be charged at the standard network rate
(...this is in sharp contrast to O2, which charges an extra monthly fee for data-tethering. O2 have also stated they will disconnect any customer who attempts to avoid the fee by installing the O2 configuration profile themselves in the way I've provided above).

Do be careful though about not going over your monthly data allowance, as the networks themselves have a very different interpretation of what 'Unlimited' data is, compared to the rest of the population! Typically it's in the region of 500MB/month.
  • From itchy at 05/07/2009 14:14
    • I'm planning to buy one of these for vodafone UK... presumably the voice and SMS works straight off, but how easy is the 3G to set-up? I had an O2-locked UK iPhone before and there was no way to change these settings - I guess I would have had to jailbreak the phone first? So are these options exposed in these phones?
    • Don't worry, this is an easy one!

      1) Go to settings menu, choose "General" > "Network" > "Cellular Data Network".
      2) In the APN box, set APN Network, Username and Password according to the below:
      3) When finished, press the home button and you're done.

APN: 'internet' (if you have a contract), or 'pp.vodafone.co.uk' (if you are on Pay as you Go)
      Username: web
      Password: web
If 'web' does not work, try 'wap'
